General Pest Technician Course

Recommended plan: four study days, one assessment day and at least a week on the job, with 12 months to complete.

Units of competency

  • CPPUPM3005: Manage pests without applying pesticides
  • CPPUPM3006: Manage pests by applying pesticides
  • CPPUPM3018: Maintain equipment and pesticide storage area in pest management vehicles
  • Nominal hours: 195
  • Pre-requisite: None

Includes core units of competency required for general pest management licensing in NSW. Trainee technicians need a training permit. There is an exemption of 84 days before you need to enrol in a training program.

Timber Pest Technician Course

Upskill licensed technicians to timber pest work and subterranean termites so you can offer higher value services to your NSW based customers.

  • CPPUPM3010: Control timber pests

  • Pre-requisite: None

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to already work for a pest business in NSW?
Not necessarily. Practical training happens in a real workplace, so you can train through your employer or a workplace agreement. If you do not have a NSW workplace, Ride & Learn on the Sunshine Coast provides practical training and supervision through Bundilla Pest Control.
How long does training usually take while working full-time in NSW?
For General Pest, we recommend four full days of study, one day for practical assessments, and at least a week of on-the-job experience. You have 12 months to complete before you need to apply for an extension. Ride & Learn timing is confirmed when you apply.
Is this training nationally recognised for NSW businesses and individuals?
Yes. The units are nationally recognised and align with requirements for pest management licensing in NSW.
Can regional NSW technicians complete assessments in their own workplace?
Yes. Practical evidence comes from real jobs. People in Sydney, regional towns, and rural NSW can collect and submit that evidence with help from trainers and assessors. If you have no local workplace, Ride & Learn is the pathway.
Which course should I start with?
New technicians usually start with the General Pest Technician Course. Licensed technicians who want timber pest work often move on to the Timber Pest Technician Course. Experienced technicians may be suitable for RPL, subject to individual assessment. Admin, sales, and operations staff may suit Understanding Pest Management. Use Find My Training Pathway if you are not sure.
Can individuals in NSW start pest control training without an employer?
Yes. You do not already need a pest-control employer. If you have a local workplace, we can tailor a pathway around that support. If you do not, you can apply for Ride & Learn on the Sunshine Coast.
